Course Introduction
4 Step Rapid Problem Solving – Skill Level 1: Knowledge
This course will give you basic knowledge about problem solving. Problem Solving is the number one skill to develop in people who want to apply lean thinking & practise within their organisation.
Why? Because the starting point for lean is understanding what situational problems you need to solve and following a robust method to solve them – rather than jumping to solutions. Therefore, if you can engage everyone in identifying and solving problems you will deliver more value to your customers and organisation.
Skill Level 1 Purpose, Process and People
In Purpose, you will learn about where Rapid Problem Solving fits in to the Lean Transformation Framework. Also, why it is so important and the benefits of it supporting People & Organisational Development.
For Process, we will explain the Four Key Elements to applying problem solving . Also we will simply explain the different types of problems and the appropiate methods you can use to solve them.
In People, you will understand the roles and responsibilities around Problem Solving, and also how leaders can support capability development to build an army of problem solvers.

1 hour of self-paced guided learning consisting of Four Lessons, Ten Topics and a Learning Confirmation. The Four Lessons are Prepare the Learner, Present Learning Topic, Tryout Learning Topic and Follow Up.

By completing the Skill Level 1 section of this course you will have gained the following basic Knowledge about 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving:-
- Purpose – Why is problem solving important.
- Process – The 4 Key Elements of problem solving.
- Process – Types of problems and the different methods to solve them.
- People – Roles & Responsibilites around solving problems.
Completion of the Course
At the end of the course and succesful completion of the Learning Confirmation you will automatically recieve a printable “Certificate of Completion” for Skill Level 1 (this does not certify capability to do however). You need to be signed in to your account to print the certificate.
Progressing onto Skill Level 2: Understanding
Skill Level 2 is aimed at developing your Understanding of the 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving method. Each step and the thinking behind it is explained and then supported by a case study for you to tryout. You will capture and summarise your output from the case study on to an RPS Quadrant Chart and then compare it to an answer that we have developed. We have found this to be the best way to confirm your understanding supported by learning confirmations aswell.
Who is this course for?
The first step in learning “Problem Solving” is to understand the different types of problems and methods available to solve them. As a guide to ensuring the right people get the right skills, we have developed a Problem Solving Framework as shown below which indicates “Who” should get developed in 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving.
- The 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving method should be used by those people who need to tackle short and medium term performance problems and improvement challenges (it doesn’t require the need for learning statistics!).
- It should be aimed at: Leaders of Teams and their Members to enable them to tackle most short and medium and term problems in either operational or business roles.
- Organisational Improvement Leaders or HR leaders who need to teach and coach their own organisational leadership but need to learn the 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving method first.
