You will then go onto become Capable in applying the 4 Step method through solving actual business problems in your organisation supported by an LEA Coach.

Duration: Spread over 12 weeks you will complete :-

In weeks 1 to 6 – Six live online sessions with a Senior LEA Coach who will teach and explain the 4 Step RPS method to further your Knowledge and Understanding. After each teach session you will complete the next part of the Case Study for review in the following week.

During weeks 7 to 12 you will go through a problem selection process and then six live weekly coaching sessions on a real business problems using the RPS Quadrant Chart.

Live Coaching: 12 live teaching and coaching sessions with a Senior LEA Coach to confirm and adjust understanding. We focus on developing your capability and solving a real problem at the same time . This Coached Skill Level 1, 2 & 3 course will give you an intial Knowledge and then a deeper Understanding about the 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving (RPS) method. You will then go onto become capable in applying the 4 Step method to solve an actual business problems in your organisation.

Problem Solving is the number one skill to develop in people who want to apply lean thinking & practise within their organisation.

Why? Because the starting point for lean is understanding what situational problems you need to solve and following a robust method to solve them – rather than jumping to solutions. Therefore, if you can engage everyone in identifying and solving problems you will deliver more value to your customers and organisation.


Skill Level 1 – Knowledge (Week 1)

A3 8 Step Practical Problem Solving: Skill Levels 1 to 3 Coached

In Purpose, you will learn about where Rapid Problem Solving fits in to the Lean Transformation Framework. Also, why it is so important and the benefits of it supporting People & Organisational Development.

For Process, we will explain the Four Key Elements to applying problem solving. Also we will simply explain the different types of problems and the appropiate methods you can use to solve them.

In People, you will understand the roles and responsibilities around Rapid Problem Solving and also how leaders can support capability development to build an army of problem solvers.


Skill Level 2 – Understanding (Weeks 2 to 6)

During the course you will gain a deeper understanding of the method and “thinking way” behind solving a problem.

You will learn about about :-

  • The RPS approach
  • 4 Steps that Follows P-D-C-A
  • Concern – What’s the gap?
  • Contain – Can we stop the problem now!
  • Cause – Find the root causes
  • Countermeasure & Confirm – Did we close the gap?
  • RPS Quadrant Chart as an effective summarising and sharing tool
Rapid Problem Solving Quadrant Chart

You will also gain some practical experience by completing an RPS Quadrant Chart from a case study exercise and then compare it with our answer!

The case study exercise is broken down into manageable steps to enable you to do short burst learning and demonstrate your understanding.

You will be supported at intervals in live sessions by a Senior LEA Coach to reflect and confirm your undertsanding after completing the RPS steps through the case study exercise.


Skill Level 3 – Capability (Weeks 7 to 12)

A3 8 Step Practical Problem Solving: Skill Levels 1 to 3 Coached

To become capable you need to develop your skill by solving a real business problems.

After going through an intial problem selection process, you will then be coached “step by step” over 6 weeks in sessions with a Senior LEA Coach.

Periodically you will also go through an evaluation process to check your undertanding and visualisation of your RPS Quadrant Chart problem solving story.

At the end of the 6 weeks you will have completed a number of RPS’s and be able to demonstrate your capability in solving problems using this method.

Over 4 hours of live teaching and coaching over 6 weeks with a Senior LEA Coach to develop your Knowledge and Understanding of the 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving approach. To become Capable, there are a further 6 hours of live coaching and feedback spread over the next 6 weeks to help solve some of your business problems.

Rapid Problem Solving Capability Development

Once you have purchased the course, you will be contacted to determine and agree the schedule for the 12 week activity with your Senior LEA Coach.

By completing the Skill Level 1 section of this course you will gain the following basic Knowledge about Rapid Problem Solving:-

  • Purpose – Why is problem solving important.
  • Process – The 4 Key Elements of problem solving.
  • Process – Types of problems and the different methods to solve them.

By completeing the Skill Level 2 section of this course you will have gained a deeper Understanding about 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving :-

Once you have completed this Skill Level 1 & 2 you will know more about the “why and what” of Rapid Practical Problem Solving and be able to explain the subject and it’s correct application.

By completeing the Skill Level 3 section of this course you will have become capable in 4 Step Rapid Practical Problem Solving :-

  • Completed a number of Rapid Problem Solving Quadrant Charts on real business problems from your organisation.
  • Evaluated and checked your thinking for each of the 4 steps.
  • Learn how to visualise your problem to simply tell your story to others.

Once you have completed Skill Level 3 you should be capable to apply 4 Step Rapid Problem Solving in your organisation and go onto develop your skill further through solving mutiple problems.

Completion of the Course

At the end of the course will recieve a “Certificate of Completion” for Skill Level 1, 2 & 3.

Progressing onto Skill Level 4: Can Do Well, Teach & Coach Others

Learning Process

If you have a role as a leader in an organisation, then we recommend you go onto complete Skill Level 4, so you can to do RPS well and be able to teach and coach others .

Here we recommend you gain more experience through completing multiple RPS’s and develop the basic coaching skills necessary before you start to teach and coach others.

You should then aim to successfully develop and evaluate at least 2 other people in Rapid Problem Solving – Skill Level 3: Capable.

If you don’t have access internally to a Skill Level 4 Coach we can offer you online or face to face coaching to achieve Skill Level 4 – just contact us directly if you are interested.

The first step in learning “Problem Solving” is to understand the different types of problems and methods available to solve them. As a guide to ensuring the right people get the right skills, we have developed a Problem Solving Framework as shown below (This is explained more in our Level 1 Course) which indicates “Who” should get developed in A3 Practical Problem Solving.
