Why we need a UK Lean Summit

A New Year brings fresh focus to everyone’s activities. For the first time since 2018, the Lean Enterprise Academy is holding a Lean Summit in the UK. In person events are important. They inspire us and provide unique networking opportunities. For our upcoming event we take the issues people tell us are most important and gather world class speakers to address the subjects.

Lean thinkers know how important it is to define purpose – in this case the reason for holding the event. The purpose of the Summit is:

  • To share how lean thinking can be used to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.
  • To raise consciousness of the latest developments in Lean Thinking and Practice.
  • To provide insight into practical ways to get started, deepen or enhance your Lean journey and transformation.
  • To enable participants to build their own network of Lean Thinkers.

Share how lean thinking can be used to solve the problems of today and tomorrow

Coming out of a global pandemic, the World has been rocked by the war in Ukraine. This has brought more focus on issues that were already present. Lean Thinking has a unique perspective that helps face problems and close gaps. Therefore, we have invited speakers to discuss how lean thinking helps close gaps on 4 key themes:

  • The productivity challenge and cost pressures.
  • Supply chain disruption.
  • The environmental crisis.
  • How organisations learned lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic.

To raise consciousness of the latest developments in Lean Thinking and Practice

Organisations effectively using lean thinking recognise it is a learning system. With our background in research, we recognise the importance of showcasing the frontiers of lean thinking. Latest developments include embedding lean thinking into digital processes, new ways to teach, coach and engage team members in lean principles more effectively and lessons that are applicable to multiple sectors.

To provide insight into practical ways to get started, deepen or enhance your Lean journey and transformation

The majority of our attendees fall into three categories: senior leaders (CEOs or board members, for instance), line managers, and lean practitioners. Each group has different needs, but all are interested in how they can take their efforts to the next level and how lean can help them do that. We design the Summit programme with a mix of thought leaders and practitioners at various stages of their lean journey. This year we have examples using the green agenda, organisations that took profit from the Covid pandemic and organisations using external cost pressures to develop better performance.

To enable participants to build their own network of Lean Thinkers

Each year customers tell us that our Summit is the not to be missed Lean event of the year for any leader, senior manager or lean practitioner wanting to transform and or sustain the gains from their lean efforts. You can find out more about the programme and reserve your place at https://www.leanuk.org/uk-lean-summit-2023/ We look forward to seeing you in Liverpool in April.
