Workshop Objectives

If you cannot see something then it is impossible to manage it correctly. We have developed, over the past six years, simple visual operational management processes to address many common problems in healthcare.

Many healthcare organisations, can now provide patient ‘demand to get in’ from their Emergency Department or via GP referral (some even by the hour and by the day of the week) and generally agree that this demand is remarkably predictable. However they very rarely know their ‘demand to get out’, the demand for discharge. It turns out that this ‘demand to get out’ is equally predictable but it cannot be seen and therefore cannot be managed.

It is a common practice for organisations to seek to discharge patients earlier in the day to create empty beds for incoming demand. However, how often does this happen in reality. There is usually a large surge in discharges, later in the day that puts the entire system (and staff) under immense pressure.

It is also quite commonplace for patients, during their spell in hospital, to only receive what they were planned to receive 40% on time and/or in full.

A combination of the current ‘Off Duty’ practices and lack of forward planning results in unbalanced working patterns which in turn results in excessive, last minute, Bank and Agency usage, representing a huge drain on the organisations finances.

Participants on this 1 day workshop will be trained in both, the implementation, and use of these visual management techniques to address these problems.

Workshop benefits

Through instruction, small group discussions and exercises, the workshop will show the participants how to:-

Who Should Attend
